The work of a Campbell River artist is featured on a new silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint.

It’s part of a new annual series called This Is Canada and features “the sights and species that inspire awe and pride for this country,” according to the Mint.
“Wondrous Waters” is the theme for 2024 as the Mint says it will take a look in a four-part series of the waters that surround Canada, starting with the Pacific Ocean.
The first coin in the series features a pod of orcas and was designed by Campbell River artist Glen Green.
The iconic coastal view shows a pod of orcas travelling in the waters near a rocky island, while in the background, forests and mountains line the shore.
In a statement on the Mint’s website Green said his mind immediately went to the Orca when he learned he was chosen to create a design representing the West Coast.
He says living on.
Vancouver Island allows him to occasionally get to pods of killer whales on his travels.
“The background of this design, with the rocky islands and the heavily forested mountains cascading down to the rugged shoreline, is typical of the West Coast,” Green said.
“To many who witness these whales patrolling the coast, especially with a calf in tow, it is one of the most spectacular experiences one can have in their lifetime!”, the statement ended.
