WestJet is set to begin seasonal service between Calgary and Campbell River.
The City of Campbell River and WestJet made the announcement Monday at the Campbell River Airport, confirming the new route will operate from May through October.
Flights will run four days a week, increasing to daily service between June 22 and September 6. Departures from Calgary are scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Mountain Time, arriving in Campbell River at 12:25 p.m. Pacific. Return flights leave Campbell River at 1 p.m., landing in Calgary at 4 p.m. The first flight is scheduled to arrive May 15.
Mayor Kermit Dahl says the new service is a major step forward for the community, calling it “a significant milestone in growing the City of Campbell River Airport and strengthening air service to and from Campbell River,” adding the route improves connectivity for residents, businesses and visitors while supporting economic growth.
Airport Manager Dennis Brodie says the new service adds important travel options, noting the airport has served the region for more than 60 years. He says the WestJet route will benefit leisure travelers, business passengers and visitors, while bringing more people directly to North Vancouver Island.
