A fire on the weekend displaced dozens of Campbell River residents.
The city of Campbell River Fire Department was called out shortly before 230am Saturday morning to a structure fire at a condo complex on Erickson Road.
Approximately 20 firefighters responded, and mutual aid support was provided by the Oyster River Fire Department. Residents were evacuated - thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
The Strathcona Regional District Emergency Support Services program was activated and a reception centre to support the evacuated residents was established at the Campbell River Baptist Church. Evacuated residents were being encouraged to reach out for support and information on temporary access to the building.
In a release, the City thanked emergency responders, RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, BC Transit, the Baptist Church, Passage View Motel, ESS volunteers, and the local taxi companies, who supported this response.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
