We ‘Spring Forward’ This Weekend

It’s time-change weekend!

Clocks will “spring forward” one hour for the start of Daylight Saving Time Sunday morning at 2am.

It’s a great time to remind you to also replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Fire and smoke spread incredibly fast, possibly leaving you with only minutes to escape a fire.

Making a habit of installing new batteries in your smoke alarms every year supports early detection.

The City Fire Department recommends having a smoke alarm in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area, and on each floor of your home, alongside regular testing.

To keep smoke alarms working their best, you can follow the “once-a-month, once-a-year, once-a-decade” rule and test smoke alarms at least once a month, replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year, and replace smoke alarms at least every ten years.

Meanwhile, we’re not quite done with the time change just yet.

Premier David Eby says we still have to wait for the U-S to come on board.

American Senator Marco Rubio introduced the Sunshine Protection Act earlier this week, which would allow daylight-saving time to be made permanent. He says ending the practice has bipartisan support.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
