Stage one water restrictions come into effect today in the region.
In the Comox Valley, which also includes the Black Creek-Oyster Bay, Royston and Union Bay water systems, lawn and garden sprinkling will be allowed between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., and again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Even-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
In Campbell River, even-numbered addresses can water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. and again from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during those same time windows.
For non-residential properties and shared systems such as strata complexes, irrigation is allowed in the early morning hours, with even-numbered addresses watering Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and odd-numbered addresses on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, all between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Hand watering of gardens, trees and shrubs is allowed at any time.
Officials say residents are being encouraged to follow the restrictions and use water wisely, noting that conserving now may help avoid stricter measures later in the season.
If you are unsure how the restrictions apply to you, it’s best to check in with your municipality.
