With Stage 2 water restrictions coming into effect a little earlier this year in many parts of the region, the Village of Cumberland is outlining what it is doing to help conserve water over the summer and fall.

Beginning on Thursday, residents and businesses in the Comox Valley, Black Creek-Oyster Bay, and Royston Water Systems will move to Stage 2.

The move is based on current water flow levels in the local Comox Valley Watershed and a lower-than-normal snowpack this past winter.

The Village says the Recreation Centre parking lot Bike Wash Station will be closed during Stage 2 restrictions, while the Village Park Water Spray Park will see a reduction in hours, operating from 12pm to 5pm.

The Village will also be reducing the lawn irrigation settings at the Village Park Family Area, Village Square and Fire Hall to once a week.

The Village Park sports fields will continue to be watered at night to maintain the areas for public use, and to prevent loss of plant material.

Under Stage 2, lawn and garden sprinkling is permitted between 6 am and 7:30 am, and 8 pm and 9:30 pm on Tuesday and Saturday for even numbered addresses, and Wednesday and Sunday for odd numbered addresses.

You can find more details, and view your watering schedule, at Village of Cumberland.
