Cumberland’s Official Community Plan (OCP) is under review and the Village is looking for input from residents.

Public engagement for the OCP review kicked off with a Plan your Community Street Event in May, with over 175 people taking part.

The Village is still seeking input, with a first round of consultations online at Connect Cumberland.

Residents can share their favourite places in the Village, add long-term visions for Cumberland, and identify issues they would like to discuss during the next round of public engagement.

Online comments provided by July 11 will be included in the Phase 1 Engagement Summary report to Council.

The OCP lays out the long-term vision to guide growth and change in the community over the next 10 years and beyond. It also sets priorities for housing, climate change, economic development, transportation and mobility, infrastructure, heritage protection, arts and culture, food systems, parks and recreation, environmental protection, and overall community well-being.

Initial engagement sought input on a long-term vision for the community and identification of topics that residents would like to explore as part of the OCP review.

During the fall, residents will be asked to engage in discussions on how the Village grows and adapts to change.

Public engagement will explore goals and policies for future land use in the Village, how to manage growth, provide affordable housing, respond to climate change, further economic development, preserve heritage, and identify priorities for the park system.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
