It is Tsunami Preparedness Week, running through April 19th.
Kelly Greene, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, said in a statement that some earthquakes in recent months have been strong enough to be felt by thousands of people along the coast, but fortunately didn’t present a tsunami risk.
However, Greene said, they were a reminder of the incredible power earthquakes can possess and the importance of being prepared.
Tsunami Preparedness Week, Green says, is an opportunity for everyone living in or visiting coastal areas to learn more about tsunamis, review emergency plans and make sure they have a grab-and-go bag ready.
Greene also notes the Province, through the BC Emergency Alert system, will issue emergency alerts to cell phones and through radio and television if a tsunami risk is identified.

Many coastal communities - including some in the Strathcona Regional District - host High Ground Hikes during Tsunami Preparedness Week, meant for people to come together and practice evacuation routes to a tsunami-safe location.
