Wednesday is Red Dress Day, a day to remember and honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

The day is marked each year on May 5th, as a reminder of the ongoing crisis, and invites solidarity and action.

In Campbell River, people will gather at Spirit Square from 11:10 AM to 1:45 PM.

There is also an event at the Florence Filberg Centre from 12pm to 3pm.

First marked in 2010, Red Dress Day is recognized across the country.

It was inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black and her installation in which she hung empty, red dresses to represent the missing and murdered women.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
