Properties connected to the Royston Water Local Service Area will move to stage three water restrictions today as the Village of Cumberland increases its restrictions in order to reduce the demand on the water supply.
“The Royston Water System is supplied through the Village of Cumberland, it is important that our residents help to ensure there is enough water for essential and emergency services in both jurisdictions as we navigate the drought conditions this summer,” says General Manager of Engineering Services Kris La Rose.
“We thank the Royston community for continuing to preserve water and doing their part in reducing water use.”
During Stage 3 water restrictions, residential lawn watering is not permitted at any time. Residents are also prohibited from pressure washing driveways and boulevards, filling a swimming pool, hot tub or garden pond.
Residents are allowed to water trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables on any day between 6 a.m .and 8 a.m., and 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. only if watering is done with a hand-held container, a hand-held hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle, or micro-irrigation/drip-irrigation system.
Residents are encouraged to minimize water use and conserve water to the greatest extent possible.
The Comox Valley Regional District manages five water systems within the region.
Each system has its own requirements for increasing water restrictions depending on the availability of water within that system and other related factors such as storage and infrastructure.
