Stage 1 water restrictions will take effect May 1 for water systems in the Comox Valley.
The restrictions apply to the Black Creek-Oyster Bay, Comox Valley, Royston and Union Bay water systems.
Under Stage 1, lawn and garden sprinkling will be allowed between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., and again from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Even-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Comox Valley Regional District Manager of Water Services Mike Herschmiller says the seasonal change is a reminder for residents to be mindful of their water use as temperatures begin to rise.
He notes that even if rainfall continues over the next few weeks, spring is the time to start conserving where possible.
The regional district says using water efficiently helps protect natural ecosystems and also reduces operating costs for local water systems.
Conservation can also help delay the need for future infrastructure upgrades and ensure adequate supply for fire protection during the drier summer months.
