The Strathcona Regional District and United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 have announced a three-year collective agreement has been reached with the Strathcona Gardens Union Employees.
The deal for non-exempt employees at Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex expired on December 31, 2023.
After multiple rounds of negotiations, a new agreement was reached.
The three-year agreement is retroactive to January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2026.
Key highlights include:
- Scheduled wage increases for all unionized employees: 4% year one, 3.5% year two, and 3% year three (including cost of living clause)
- Enhancements to premiums and healthcare benefits.
"Reaching this new collective agreement is a significant step forward for the Strathcona Regional District,” said Strathcona Gardens Commission Vice-Chair, John Rice.
“This commitment provides important stability for both our dedicated staff and the community we serve, enhancing the quality of recreation services at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex.”
The lead negotiator for the union, Shelley Siemens, says it’s a deal that those around the bargaining table think everyone will be happy with.
