A major sewer leak near the Comox Marina prompted the Comox Valley Regional District to close several facilities and ask residents to limit water usage.
Crews were on site about 9:30 a.m. yesterday after the spill was identified.
The leak was repaired by mid-afternoon.
The CVRD was asking residents of Courtenay, Comox, and K’omoks First Nation to stop all non-essential water use until repairs were completed.
The District said there was no impact to the safety of the drinking water.
Residents were encouraged to limit water use at home, avoid swimming, boating, and other water related activities in the Comox Harbour and inside of Goose Spit.
The leak also closed many facilities including the Comox Valley Sports and Aquatic Centres, the Lewis and Florence Filberg Centres, the Exhibition Grounds, and public washrooms.
While residents were able to start using water again after the leak was repaired, they were still being asked to avoid swimming, boating, and water related activities in the Comox Harbour and inside of Goose Spit.
CVRD rec facilities will re-open for scheduled programming on Wednesday while many City of Courtenay facilities re-opened Tuesday night.
