Seaweed will again be front and centre in Campbell River next week.

North Island College’s Centre for Applied Research, Technology and Innovation is inviting residents to Seaweed Film Night on June 3rd at the Tidemark Theatre as part of Ocean Week Campbell River.

The event runs from 7 until 9 p.m. and will feature a lineup of short films exploring the beauty, science, and cultural importance of seaweed along the B.C. coast.

Organizers say the films will highlight everything from kelp forest ecosystems to local research and restoration efforts, while encouraging people to learn more about the important role seaweed plays in ocean health and coastal communities.

North Island College says the evening will also include a festival-style atmosphere, with opportunities to connect with researchers, and learn about different local seaweed species.

The Centre says seaweed is often an unsung hero of marine ecosystems, and the event is designed to bring science and storytelling together while showcasing the work happening right here on the coast.

Tickets are $10 for individuals or $30 for a family of four, with organizers calling it a family-friendly event for all ages.

Seaweed Film Night is one of several activities planned during Ocean Week Campbell River, a national celebration aimed at connecting Canadians with the ocean through learning, exploration, and action.
