The Campbell River School District is asking for public feedback on proposed changes to its diversity, equality and equity policy.
The revised draft policy is now titled “Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility,” and is aimed at strengthening the district’s commitment to safe, inclusive and accessible learning environments for students.
The proposed updates were brought forward by the board governance committee following discussions at a public board meeting in March.
School trustees issued a notice of motion during Tuesday’s public meeting, launching a public feedback period before the board considers the changes later this month.
District officials say the revised language reflects recommendations from the Equity in Action Committee, school administrators, and members of the district’s Accessibility Committee.
Students, staff, families and community members are encouraged to review the draft policy and submit feedback by May 20th.
The proposed policy and details on how to provide feedback will be posted on the district’s website.
