A note for Sayward residents who might have some old tires kicking around.
This weekend the Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC) is working in partnership with the Comox Valley Regional District to collect used, old tires for recycling from residents in the Sayward area at the Sayward Clean-Up event.
TSBC is a not-for-profit group dedicated to the collection and recycling of scrap tires in British Columbia.
In partnership with Comox Strathcona Waste Management, in conjunction with Sayward Clean-Up Days, they will be collecting residential scrap tires this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Main Road Yard, located at 797 Island Highway.
TSBC Executive Director Rosemary Sutton says the scrap tires are recycled into many different environmentally friendly products including playground surfacing, recreational flooring, water parks, animal mats, and truck bed liners.
Since 1991, over 100 million tires have been recycled in B.C., and TSBC’s scrap tire recycling program is one of the most successful in North America and the oldest recycling program in Canada.
Every year in B.C. over five million scrap car tires are recycled into new products.
