The B.C. government has launched a new plan aimed at growing the province’s tourism industry and attracting more visitors from around the world.
The Look West Tourism Sector Action Plan sets a target of doubling tourism revenue to 48-billion dollars by 2036.
The province says the plan will focus on boosting B.C.’s global profile as a travel destination, attracting international visitors, and unlocking new investment opportunities across the tourism sector.
It also aims to support development in areas such as mountain resorts, adventure tourism and outdoor recreation, while helping strengthen rural economies.
Tourism currently generates about 23 billion dollars in annual revenue in B.C. and contributes roughly 8 billion dollars to the provincial economy.
The sector includes nearly 17 thousand businesses and supports more than 113 thousand direct jobs across the province.
The province says the plan is also designed to help smaller and rural communities benefit from tourism growth through improved access, expanded events, and new regional opportunities.
