The Province is putting nearly two million dollars into improving evacuation planning and emergency notifications in communities across B.C.
The funding is coming through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, and it’ll support 42 projects in 51 communities.
That includes work to map evacuation routes, update local emergency plans, and run training exercises so communities are better prepared when disaster strikes.
“It’s vital that communities have clear evacuation routes and dependable notification systems to keep people safe in the event of an emergency,” said Kelly Greene, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.
“These projects will improve the information available to communities, residents and first responders so they can act quickly and protect people when the need arises.”
The program is run through the Union of BC Municipalities and aims to boost readiness for natural disasters and climate-related events.
