The Comox Valley Regional District has held a small acknowledgement and plaque reveal event to recognize the donation of 4.5 acres to be added to Maris Nature Park in Electoral Area C.
The donation was made by Resolute North Holdings Ltd and Electoral Area C Director Edwin Grieve said last week’s event marked another important addition to the parks system in the Comox Valley.
It was made possible through the Environment and Climate Change Canada Ecological Gifts Program, which provides a way for owners of ecologically sensitive land to protect nature and leave a legacy for future generations. As per donation guidelines, development options for land donated through the program require ECCC review and approval.
As CVRD staff continue to work through the management planning process, the public is being asked not to access the land and respect the ecological values of the site. Updates will be provided on the Maris Nature Park project page, including community engagement and a public survey launching in late April.
