The federal and provincial governments are offering up $250,000 to support a labour market study of Campbell River, Strathcona Regional District and Regional District of Mount Waddington.
North Island MLA Michele Babchuk says the investment will help build stronger communities in the North Island region and help attract talent to high demand sectors such as healthcare.
She says the results of the study will help communities grow a strong and sustainable local economy that will benefit people today and strengthen future generations.
The economic landscape of Campbell River and Vancouver Island North is shifting rapidly due to factors such as policy and regulatory changes, evolving economic drivers and global events, placing additional pressure on regional labour markets, and impacting businesses.
Activities will include producing an updated labour market report and undertaking several initiatives to attract healthcare professionals.
Key focus areas will be on regional health and wellness, aquaculture, forest, and tourism sectors.
It’s welcome news to Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl, who’s says the funding will enable the City to provide updated information and tools to help decision-makers address labour market challenges, seize opportunities, and strategize solutions.
The project’s anticipated completion date will be in early 2024.
