The Village of Cumberland has adopted its first Amenity Cost Charges Bylaw, which took effect on June 9.
Mayor Vickey Brown says setting rates helps builders and developers know what costs to expect and is one of many steps the Village has been taking to streamline the development process.
The new charges will help pay for future recreation and childcare facilities as the community grows.
Amenity Cost Charges are one-time fees paid at the time of residential subdivision or building permit that results in new units and helps fund amenities needed to support community growth.
Builders and developers with applications already in progress should check whether their project qualifies for in-stream protection, which may allow them to be exempt from ACC charges.
Certain developments are exempt from ACCs under provincial law, including places of worship, and certain types of publicly funded and non-profit housing.
