More Snowy Weather Is Coming This Week

Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 7:46 AM

By Jay Herrington

More snowy weather is coming later today into tomorrow.

A Pacific low pressure system is expected to bring more snow to the B.C. south coast.

There is a snowfall warning in effect for Campbell River and the Comox Valley.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says it and its contractors are preparing for snow and possible freezing rain across Vancouver Island, Metro Vancouver, and the Fraser Valley.

Things are set to begin overnight tonight and continue into tomorrow, during the morning commute, dropping 10-20cms of snow.

The province suggests you check road conditions on DriveBC before setting out, carry an emergency kit that includes a blanket and warm clothes, and allow extra time to get to your destination.

The Campbell River Community Centre was again made available last night for those needing a warm place to shelter.

With warmer temperatures in the forecast, the Warming Centre is not currently scheduled to be open beyond this morning, but that could change.

The City will notify the public on the City’s website and social media channels regarding any changes to its operating hours.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
