Cumberland’s municipal election was not the only important race being decided over the weekend.
While adults were choosing their next Village Council, some younger residents were asked to settle one of childhood’s great debates: which piece of playground equipment deserves to be number one?
The Village’s 2026 Kids Vote invited children to cast a ballot for their favourite part of the playground. The official choices included the slide, swing set, monkey bars and teeter-totter.
After all the ballots were counted, the monkey bars emerged as the decisive winner with 51 votes.
The swing set finished a respectable second with 42 votes, while the slide received 17 and the teeter-totter collected 15.
Not every young voter was satisfied with the options on the ballot. One independent-minded participant submitted a write-in vote for the merry-go-round.
A total of 126 children participated in the Kids Vote, giving young Cumberland residents an early—and considerably more playful—introduction to elections and the democratic process.
The Village is thanking all of the youngsters who cast ballots and helped make playground politics part of election day.
