Sayward residents looking to clear out unwanted household items will have an opportunity to do some fall cleaning this weekend as the community's Clean-Up Days return.

The two-day event takes place Saturday, October 17th, and Sunday, October 18th, giving residents a convenient way to dispose of bulky household waste and other unwanted materials that may not be suitable for regular curbside garbage collection.

Organized through the Strathcona Regional District, the event will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days at the Main Road Yard, located at 797 Island Highway in Sayward.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to clean out garages, basements, storage sheds and other areas where unwanted household items may have accumulated.

What Can Be Dropped Off?

  • A variety of household materials will be accepted during the event, including:
  • Furniture and other bulky household waste
  • Small and large appliances
  • Electronics
  • Scrap metal
  • Batteries
  • Old tires

Residents should be aware that drywall and certain hazardous materials will not be accepted.

Participants will also be responsible for unloading and sorting their own materials at the drop-off site.

Give Unwanted Items a Second Life

For residents with household items that are still in good condition, the event will also offer an opportunity to donate rather than dispose of them.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore will be on-site, accepting gently used household items suitable for donation.

The initiative provides residents with an opportunity to keep reusable materials out of the waste stream while supporting Habitat for Humanity's community programs.

Organizers encourage residents to separate items intended for donation from materials being dropped off for disposal.

Residents looking for additional information, including accepted and prohibited materials, can visit Comox Strathcona Waste Management or Strathcona Regional District.

The event offers Sayward residents a chance to tackle their fall cleaning projects while responsibly disposing of unwanted items and giving reusable household goods a second life.
