Young people across Campbell River, the Comox Valley and the Strathcona Regional District are being encouraged to apply for an opportunity to experience provincial politics firsthand.
The British Columbia Youth Parliament is accepting applications for its 98th annual session, which will bring young people from across the province together at the BC Legislature in Victoria later this year.
The program is open to youth between the ages of 16 and 21 who are interested in leadership, community service and learning more about how government works.
This year's session takes place December 27th through 31st, giving participants the opportunity to spend five days experiencing the parliamentary process inside the province's Legislative Chambers.
During the session, participants will take part in debates, discuss issues affecting British Columbians and gain firsthand experience with parliamentary procedures.
The program is designed to help young people develop public speaking, critical thinking and leadership skills while building connections with other youth from communities throughout British Columbia.
Beyond learning about politics, the BC Youth Parliament also emphasizes the importance of community involvement and public service.
Participants are encouraged to take the skills and experiences they gain during the program back to their own communities, where they can help make a positive difference.
For young people considering careers in politics, public administration, law or community leadership, the experience offers an opportunity to better understand the democratic process and the responsibilities of elected representatives.
The registration fee is $600, which includes transportation and accommodation during the session.
Limited financial assistance is available for applicants who may need support covering the cost of participation.
Young people interested in attending are encouraged to submit their applications before the October 30th deadline.
More information about eligibility, the program and the application process is available at British Columbia Youth Parliament.
