MLA Leonard Says Grants Will Support Local Arts And Extracurricular Activities In Courtenay-Comox

Courtenay-Comox MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard says local organizations and parent advisory councils will be able to support young artists and extracurricular activities thanks to over $414,000 in Community Gaming Grants funding.

This round of funding is from the Community Gaming Grants program's arts and culture stream and parent advisory council and district parent advisory council (PAC/DPAC) stream.

“People in Courtenay and Comox are lucky to have so many fantastic community groups, especially arts and culture organizations that have supported our strong reputation as a place for artists to thrive,” said Leonard.

“This funding for community arts organizations and PACs will support the important work they do for people in our community.”

In Courtenay-Comox, the following organizations are receiving funding to support arts and culture:

Comox Archives and Museum Society, $19,000
Courtenay and District Historical Society, $54,600
The Alberni Project Society, $11,500
Comox Valley Art Gallery, $79,400
Comox Valley Community Arts Council, $30,000
Comox Valley Exhibition Association, $50,000
Comox Valley Folk Society, $11,000
Nova Voce Choral Society, $10,000

Eighteen parent advisory councils/district parent advisory councils are receiving funding to support extracurricular events, activities, and equipment, including:

Puntledge Park Elementary PAC, $10,200
G.P. Vanier Secondary School PAC, $23,920
Ecole Robb Road PAC, $8,800
Highland Senior Secondary School PAC, $13,820

More than $18.2 million in new funding will go to over 650 organizations to support arts and culture across the province.

More than 1,300 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils will also receive over $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout British Columbia.
