Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl is encouraging local businesses to stay strong in the light of potential tariffs on Canadian products entering the United States, and Canada’s counter tariffs.
Dahl shared a message on the City’s Facebook page saying that in the coming weeks the city's economic development department will be sharing updated info through social media channels and the city’s website about upcoming measures.
He said staff will be reaching out to local business owners about the specific challenges they are facing because of the new tariffs.
His message was pushing the provincial and federal governments to break down interprovincial trade barriers, opening up new opportunities for local businesses.
That’s something Premier David Eby, and other Canadian premiers, have echoed.
All 13 provincial and territorial leaders are in Washington, D.C., as part of a joint mission aimed at strengthening Canada-U.S. relations.
While the threat of tariffs remains, Dahl encourages residents to shop local, take efforts to understand product labels, and when possible, buy products made in Canada.
