Local Closures After State Funeral For Queen Elizabeth II

A state funeral was held this morning in London, after 10 days of tributes and mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Governor General Mary Simon and their spouses led the group that included former governors general Michaelle Jean and David Johnston, and former prime ministers Kim Campbell, Jean Chretien, Paul Martin, and Stephen Harper.

The Canadian delegation also include Assembly of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis national leaders.

King Charles III and other members of the Royal Family walked behind the carriage carrying the queen's coffin in a procession that also included members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP.

The Queen will be buried, next to her husband Prince Phillip, at Windsor Castle.

Victoria Police say there will be road closures around the B-C Parliament Buildings as members of the military and dignitaries from across the province -- including Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Janet Austin and Premier John Horgan -- gather for a ceremony honouring Queen Elizabeth.

The procession will leave parliament shortly after 10am and travel the nearly 1.5 kilometer route to Christ Church Cathedral.

A 21-gun salute by the 5th (BC) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery will be fired from Belleville Street.

The procession will be broadcast on the BC government website, while the service can be found on the church's website.

The B.C. Parliament Buildings will be closed today - Condolence books in the Hall of Honour will be available to sign tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., along with a book at Government House at from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Government buildings are also closed throughout the province.

Premier John Horgan followed the federal government's suit in announcing last week the province would recognize today as a holiday.

Government buildings - including municipal offices and facilities - are closed today.

Schools are also closed.

The Strathcona Gardens Recreation Facility has closures today as well.

The pool is closed but the arena will remain open and include a public skate from 1pm to 4pm.
