A landslide occurred in Campbell River Tuesday night.

“City crews have assessed and continue to monitor the landslide that took place tonight, January 17, on Island Hwy S,” says Drew Hadfield, Acting City Manager.

“I’d like to reassure residents that the situation is stable and thank the public for their patience as we respond to this incident.”

What you can do:

• Avoid the buildings and properties affected.

• Follow the directions of local authorities.

• Do not call 911 for information or updates.

Both buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure and the City was advising residents of either building to stay away.

A temporary reception centre opened at Campbell River Baptist Church on Dogwood Street.

Officials say no injuries were reported and the surrounding area is secure. The City fire department and Campbell River RCMP responded to the incident and continued to monitor things overnight.

An alert was issued via Alertable, the emergency notification system used by the City, and it will remain in effect until conditions stabilize.

For the latest updates, the City asks the public to visit the City website www.campbellriver.ca.
