K’ómoks First Nation will be closing Queneesh Trailer Park in two years to make way for housing and services for Nation members.
Tenants of the QTP have been notified of the park closure, scheduled for January 31st, 2028.
The landlord for QTP is also providing tenants with an opportunity to have their monthly pad rental fees waived, to give tenants additional resources to secure alternative housing.
The Nation said it recognizes that the transition affects current park tenants and will require tenants to make alternative living plans.
The park is more than 50 years old and requires significant upgrades.
In a release, the Nation says taking its lands back advances urgent and long-term housing priorities, which aligns with KFN’s broader community planning efforts, and growing demand for housing among members, including housing for members currently experiencing housing insecurity.
The Nation says its focus is on responsibly stewarding its lands, while addressing the immediate and long-term housing needs of members.
