The Independent Investigations Office of BC has completed an investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Courtenay earlier this year.
On April 29th, an RCMP officer driving an unmarked police SUV was responding to a call. While driving, the officer was involved in a collision with an unrelated vehicle near the intersection of Piercy Avenue and 26th Street.
The officer continued driving to the initial call for service, later returning to the scene of the collision and speaking with the man who had been driving the other vehicle.
The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital for assessment.
The IIO says after a review of medical evidence collected by investigators it has determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC is an independent, civilian oversight agency of police in British Columbia.
It investigates officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
