Homalco First Nation, has signed a historical land acquisition deal with Mosaic Forest Management. It provides the Nation’s band an additional 390 acres, bringing Homalco's land holdings in the area to 550 acres.
Chief Darren Blaney, council, Mosaic executive members & Homalco residents met in the Band Office Great Hall last Friday to sign off.
Blaney says the land is an important piece to the long term business plan of Homalco, which owns The Raven, and something he started working on when first elected chief in 2017.
He says Mosaic is interested in working with Homalco on further projects. He says they’ve talked a bit about a few different things - from a gas station and office space - to a hotel or high-rise, which could house all of Homalco's business entities.
He says there is also a vision to develop a facility to help Homalco First Nations residents battle alcohol and drugs.
