The City of Courtenay is rolling out a new initiative aimed at bringing neighbours closer together and building stronger community connections.
The “Hello Neighbour” program is part of the City’s broader Neighbourhood Network Strategy, which focuses on improving social connection, community well-being, and a sense of belonging across local neighbourhoods.
City officials say the initiative is designed to be simple and inclusive, encouraging residents of all ages and backgrounds to take part in small, everyday actions that help build a more connected community.
Mayor Bob Wells says the program is about helping people connect with those around them and recognizing the moments that make neighbourhoods feel welcoming and meaningful.
Residents are being asked to reflect on what being a good neighbour means to them and to share stories, photos, or examples of neighbourly acts.
Participation is flexible and can happen anywhere - whether at home, on the street, in parks, or in shared community spaces.
There are also online options available, including a short survey asking residents what makes a good neighbour, and an interactive map where people can pin stories or photos about their neighbourhood.
Participation online is optional, but those who do take part will be entered into a random draw, with prizes available for both individuals and their neighbourhoods.
The City says the initiative builds on previous community engagement efforts and is meant to be accessible to residents throughout Courtenay.
Information and feedback gathered through the program will be used to help guide future neighbourhood-building efforts.
