The Village of Sayward is warning residents after a grizzly bear was spotted within the community on Monday, May 4th.
Officials are urging people to use extreme caution and take steps to reduce potential bear attractants around their homes.
Residents are being reminded not to approach the bear under any circumstances, and to stay alert, especially during dawn and dusk hours when bears are most active.
People are also being asked to secure garbage, pet food and bird feeders, and to keep children and pets supervised at all times.
The Village says anyone spending time outdoors should carry bear spray and know how to use it.
If the bear is seen within the community, residents are asked to stay calm, back away slowly and avoid running.
Sightings should be reported to the BC Conservation Officer Service RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
