Residents in the South McPhedran Road and South Dogwood Street area may notice emergency responders in their neighbourhood next week as part of a planned exercise.
Campbell River Search and Rescue volunteers and RCMP are expected to be in the area between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5.
Officials say the activity is part of an emergency preparedness exercise and not a real incident.
The exercise is being led by the Strathcona Regional District in partnership with the City of Campbell River.
During the drill, search and rescue volunteers and police will distribute mock wildfire evacuation orders to simulate how notifications could be delivered during an actual emergency.
Property owners within the exercise area have received letters informing them about the training.
Officials note that not all households will receive a visit, as the number of properties contacted will depend on volunteer availability.
The exercise is scheduled to wrap up around 8:15 p.m.
The City says wildfire preparedness includes both participating in exercises and reducing risks around homes and properties.
Residents are encouraged to complete FireSmart activities, including addressing the three FireSmart Home Ignition Zones to help lower wildfire intensity and improve a home’s chances of surviving a wildfire.
