An update has been provided on that escaped African serval cat last week, leaving some residents in Qualicum Beach on edge.

Two of the cats escaped their enclosure on private property back on October 1st.

One of them was captured the next day but it's pregnant, female partner remained on the loose for a week.

It was re-captured on Sunday; found hunting ducks on a nearby farm. The farm owner had managed to secure her in the duck pen.

The cats owners believe someone let them loose in an attempt to steal the animals - worth about $20-thousand each - or to simply set them free.

The BC SPCA says the servals had killed at least one domestic cat while on the loose - and the female was responsible for the deaths of two ducks before being caught.

Servals are not regulated in BC, which means they can be owned as pets, however, the BC SPCA has been pushing for exotic pet laws which would keep people from owning the animals.

For now, the cats owners say they are working on building a bigger and better pen for the animals.
