Earthquake Evacuation Drill Takes Place Tomorrow In Campbell River

A reminder about Thursday's earthquake evacuation drill in downtown Campbell River.

A reminder about Thursday's earthquake evacuation drill in downtown Campbell River.

The City says whether you live, work or play in the downtown area, it is strongly encouraged that you participate in this community emergency exercise.

Things will get underway at 10am tomorrow - where those in the downtown area will be encouraged to get outside the post-earthquake flood zone following a major quake, in a quick but organized fashion.

In a release, the City notes that Campbell River is located downstream of three hydroelectric dams. BC Hydro regularly conducts risk assessments, and while the dams are safe, an earthquake could cause water to release, flooding parts of the city.

The exercise is aimed at allowing residents to practice the real evacuation actions that should be taken, learn about the geographic area of the post-earthquake flood zone and figure out about all the possible evacuation routes.

Everyone is encouraged to participate tomorrow, and no pre-registration is required.
