Island Health has issued a drug poisoning advisory for Campbell River, warning of an increase in overdoses in the community.
According to the advisory, drug poisonings are rising in Campbell River, and anyone using unregulated substances is at increased risk.
If someone experiences an overdose, the guidance is to call 911 immediately, give one breath every five seconds, and administer naloxone if available.
Health officials also point to a range of harm reduction supports, including overdose prevention sites, drug checking services, and take-home naloxone kits, aimed at reducing the risk of injury or death.
