Driver Charged With Murder In Fatal Hit-And-Run Collision In Courtenay

45-year-old Steven Squires of Cumberland has been charged with first degree murder and failing to stop after an accident causing death.

An arrest has been made following a fatal hit-and-run in Courtenay.

On Thursday night, Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of an injured cyclist on the Comox Valley Parkway near Minto Road.

Rod Kelly was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit took control of the investigation and located the suspect vehicle involved in the collision over the weekend.

The RCMP says they arrested the driver on Saturday in the Comox Valley.

He remains in custody and made his first court appearance on Feb. 11.
