The d’Esterre Seniors' Centre Association is inviting the community to celebrate a major milestone next month as the Centre marks its 50th anniversary.
The d’Esterre Seniors' Centre first opened its permanent home on Beaufort Avenue in 1976 after local seniors spent years working to create a dedicated gathering place. The land was donated by community benefactor Sidney "Dusty" d’Esterre, whose support helped shape the Comox waterfront.
Comox Mayor Nicole Minions says the Centre has spent five decades helping seniors stay active, connected, and engaged, while Association President Myrna Holman says the anniversary is a chance to celebrate the volunteers and members who have made the Centre a welcoming place for generations.
The celebration takes place Saturday, July 18, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the gazebo beside the Centre in Comox Marina Park.
The free, family-friendly event will feature live music, a beer garden, food for purchase, and activities for children, including face painting and games.
