Demolition is officially underway in the 1300-block of Shoppers Row on the redevelopment site for the City of Campbell River’s Reimagine the Row project.
Staff and Council were on-site Monday to mark the first day of demolition.
In a post on Facebook, the City says it’s a major step in the downtown revitalization project, which will bring much needed rental housing (including affordable units with rents below market rates), a mix of commercial and civic spaces, and more vibrancy to the heart of downtown.
As work progresses, the laneway behind the project area is temporarily closed.
The sidewalk in front of 1342 Shoppers Row is temporarily closed and other sidewalk closures along the 1300-block of Shoppers Row are expected as demolition progresses.
The Downtown Safety Office has also been temporarily relocated to the Centennial Building at 1235 Shoppers Row during construction to continue to provide essential services to the downtown core.
