The Comox Valley Regional District says it will be stepping up enforcement of dog leashing rules in parks and trails this spring and summer.
CVRD bylaw officers will be actively patrolling regional parks and trail systems and issuing fines to dog owners who fail to leash their pets or keep them under control where required.
The district says concerns continue about unleashed and out-of-control dogs chasing livestock and harassing residents and visitors in local parks.
Parks Manager Mark Harrison says respecting dog control rules helps protect sensitive ecosystems, supports the agricultural community, and ensures parks remain safe and welcoming for everyone.
He adds that following the rules can also help preserve areas where off-leash access is permitted.
Fines for failing to keep a dog under control or failing to use a leash where required are $100 under Electoral Area Parks regulations.
