Comox Strathcona Waste Management is thanking local residents and businesses who volunteered time, expertise and equipment to help clean-up after illegal dumping.
They helped pick up 37 tonnes - roughly the weight of 21 cars - of illegally dumped material at a site in Campbell River.
The clean-up was able to divert wood waste and metal, in addition to clearing out garbage.
Stephanie Valdal, Services Coordinator for CSWM, says illegal dumping is something they deal with on a regular basis and clean-ups like this help divert recyclables and dispose of waste in responsible ways.
Illegal dumping is prohibited and can carry a fine of up to $2000.
If you spot an illegal dump site or see someone disposing of trash in our environment call 250-334-6000 or report it online at Comox Strathcona Waste Management.
Comox Strathcona Waste Management manages over 100,000 tonnes of waste and recycled material annually and oversees a number of diversion and education programs for the Strathcona and Comox Valley Regional Districts.
