Courtenay’s downtown core just got even more electric.

A new dual-head Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging station is up and running at the corner of 6th Street and England Avenue in Downtown Courtenay.

The station is strategically located near shops, restaurants, and services, and will operate from from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, with site parking up to two hours.

Other charging stations will be installed in early 2023 at the Lewis Centre and City Hall.

Twenty-eight new charging stations were announced 2 years ago for Vancouver Island, with ten to be located in the Comox Valley.

Four stations were to be installed in the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), two in the Village of Cumberland, and one in the Town of Comox.

This expansion was announced in 2020, the result of an investment from all levels of government to the tune of about $700,000.
