The City of Courtenay is launching Parks Alive, a new pilot program offering free activities, events and experiences in parks across the community this summer.
The initiative is designed to bring residents together through recreation, culture and outdoor fun in welcoming neighbourhood spaces.
Kathy Collins, Manager of Recreation Programming at the City of Courtenay says Parks Alive is about making it easy for people to connect, be active and enjoy their local parks.
The program features a wide variety of activities, including fitness classes, music, games, art and family-friendly events. Programming will take place throughout Courtenay, with regular activations at Glen Hawk, Harmston and Woodcote parks, along with pop-up activities in other locations.
The program will also introduce Play Boxes at Harmston, Woodcote and Glen Hawk parks.
The self-guided activity stations provide games and equipment for residents to enjoy at their leisure, helping expand opportunities for free, unstructured play.
The pilot kicks off Saturday, July 7, at Harmston Park and will run throughout July and August, with new activities and featured parks highlighted each week.
