Construction is about to get underway on a major infrastructure upgrade in Campbell River.
Work on the Erickson Road Renewal Project is expected to begin as early as Thursday, May 7, focusing on replacing aging underground water and storm sewer pipes.
The project will start near the Larwood Creek crossing and move west along Erickson Road to just past Nature Park Drive.
City officials say the upgrades are needed as the existing infrastructure has reached the end of its service life.
The contract, valued at $5.7 million, was awarded to Windley Contracting earlier this year.
Drivers can expect single-lane alternating traffic in the area for the next seven months while construction is underway.
Parking will also be limited within the work zone, although garbage and recycling collection will continue as usual, and no changes to transit service are expected at this time.
The first phase of the project includes replacing underground utilities and restoring the road surface, with plans to add sidewalks in areas where they don’t currently exist.
The City says it is also pursuing additional grant funding to support future improvements along the corridor, including a multi-use path, curbs, and upgraded lighting.
Residents living along the route will receive invitations to drop-in office hours, where they can learn more about the project and ask questions about how the work may affect them.
