The Comox Valley Regional District, along with the K’ómoks First Nation and provincial and federal funding partners, are celebrating the start of construction for the new Courtenay Pump Station and Sewer Conveyance Project today.

A groundbreaking ceremony takes place this morning where several dignitaries will be on hand.

The project includes the construction of a new Courtenay Pump Station, retrofits to K’ómoks First Nation and Comox Pump Stations, and the installation of more than nine kilometers of new sewer forcemain.

The new system will route sewer pipes further inland where they will no longer be vulnerable to damage by waves, rocks, and logs and, thereby, will protect the beaches and waters throughout the Comox Estuary and Point Holmes and Goose Spit coastlines, as well as Baynes Sound.

Additional work will include beautification of the site through the completion of a mural by a K'ómoks First Nation artist, landscaping, and the construction of buried utilities and linkage to the existing system.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
