More Comox Valley homeowners will soon have help covering the cost of maintaining their septic systems.
The Comox Valley Regional District has launched a new three-year Septic System Maintenance Rebate Program for eligible property owners in Electoral Areas A, B, and C.
The pilot program is designed to encourage regular maintenance of private septic systems, helping protect public health, local water quality, and the environment, while extending the life of existing systems.
Eligible homeowners can apply for a one-time rebate covering 75 percent of maintenance costs, up to a maximum of $700 per property.
Qualifying work includes septic system inspections, as well as the installation or replacement of access risers, distribution boxes, and effluent filters.
The work must be completed by an authorized professional to qualify, while new septic system installations and routine tank pump-outs are not eligible for funding.
The Comox Valley RD has set aside $36 thousand annually for the program through 2028, with rebates available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A pre-approval process will allow applicants to reserve funding for up to 90 days.
Applications for the 2026 program are now open, and homeowners are encouraged to apply early because funding is limited.
