The Town of Comox is marking a significant milestone this week, celebrating 80 years since its incorporation.
A full week of anniversary events is planned today through Sunday, January 18th, recognizing eight decades since Comox was incorporated as a village in 1946.
The community later achieved official Town status in 1967.
Planned celebrations include a variety of community activities, historical displays, and chances for residents to reflect on and share personal memories.
The Town says the anniversary also honours the Pentlatch, E’iksan, Sahtloot, Sasitla, and K’ómoks First Nation as the original stewards of the land.
The main celebration takes place on Wednesday, January 14, the official anniversary date, with a Community Open House in the evening at both the Comox Archives and Museum and the Pearl Ellis Art Gallery.
Running from 6 to 8 p.m., the event will include remarks from Mayor Nicole Minions, guided tours, exhibits, family-friendly activities, and cupcakes to help mark the occasion.
