Cities, towns, and villages are making preparations for Monday's national holiday to mark Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

Cities, towns, and villages are making preparations for Monday's national holiday to mark Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

Premier John Horgan said last night that British Columbia will join other provinces in observing the national day of mourning.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared the day a holiday for federal workers and the premier told provincial public-sector employers to honour this day as well.

Only Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec won't be making the day an official holiday for workers.

K-12 public schools and public post-secondary institutions, and most Crown corporations will be closed Monday.

Horgan says he encourages private-sector employers to find a way to recognize or reflect on the day as well, in a way that is appropriate for their employees.

The City of Campbell River will observe the national holiday on Monday, as all City facilities, including City Hall, the Community Centre, the Downtown Safety Office and the Dogwood Operations Centre will be closed.

Monday's council meeting is also being postponed to Tuesday, at 6pm.

In a release , the City says it knows that these closures and cancellations may cause an inconvenience to some residents and encourages residents to utilize the City’s online services where possible.

A ceremonial procession and commemorative service for Queen Elizabeth II will be held in Victoria on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.

The procession will start from the B.C. Parliament Buildings and walk to Christ Church Cathedral.

The procession will include the Honorable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Premier John Horgan, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and other dignitaries.

A 21-gun salute will be fired.

The commemorative service at Christ Church Cathedral will be livestreamed on the Church's website: https://www.christchurchcathedral.bc.ca/live

Public seating inside Christ Church Cathedral will be limited.

The service begins at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, further details about the procession and the commemorative service will be shared once finalized.
